Chonchon & Chocolat

The Concept

Chonchon & Chocolat doesn't fit neatly into one category, and that's exactly the point. It's a restaurant, a salon de thé, a café, a chocolate bar, and a concept store all under one roof — a hybrid format built around the idea that a meal, a cup of tea, and a little retail therapy can all happen in the same warm, colorful room. The decor, designed by Made in Diva, leans into a poetic, contemporary take on Moroccan style: natural materials, harmonious colors, and original pieces that turn the space itself into part of the experience. Almost everything you see on the walls and shelves — the decorative objects, the lifestyle accessories, the gift ideas — is actually for sale, so browsing the room is as much a part of the visit as the menu.

Behind the kitchen is Chef Brahim, building a menu that draws on international technique without losing its sense of fun — dish descriptions on the menu read more like short stories than ingredient lists, which says a lot about the personality of the place.

What to Order

The menu changes character depending on what time you walk in. Mornings are built around proper omelets, oeufs cocotte, and a handful of set breakfast formulas — from the simple "L'Express" to "Le Maroki," a Moroccan-leaning spread of harcha, msemen, and batbout with honey and fresh cheese. At lunch, a weekly rotating formula (entrée, plat, and dessert) keeps regulars coming back, alongside an à la carte menu that's more ambitious than a casual café has any right to be: a Salade Chonchon loaded with foie gras mousse, smoked duck breast, and figs; grilled octopus with smoked eggplant caviar; and mains like seared beef fillet, lotte medallion in truffle sauce, and seared scallops with butternut purée and a dark chocolate citrus butter — a clever, literal nod to the restaurant's name.

Dessert is where the "Chocolat" half of the name earns its keep. The Paris-Marrakech — choux pastry filled with praline, amlou, and argan oil — is the house signature, alongside a citrus-and-salted-caramel cheesecake and an intensely dark chocolate mousse. The Bar à Mousses au Chocolat is worth a special trip on its own. In the afternoon, the salon de thé side takes over with a proper Afternoon Tea: savory tartines and verrines, fresh scones with clotted cream, mini pastries, and a rotating selection of fresh juices and teas. On Sundays, it all comes together in "L'Ogre du Dimanche," a brunch spread of viennoiseries, Moroccan crêpes, eggs, mains, and dessert running from 11AM to 3PM.

The Setting

The space sits right on Avenue Mohammed V, facing Carré Eden in the heart of Guéliz — easy to find, and just as easy to linger in. Inside, the colorful, art-filled decor creates a relaxed, almost gallery-like atmosphere that works for a solo coffee, a long lunch, or an afternoon spent browsing the concept store between courses. Reviewers consistently point to the warmth of the welcome from the team as much as the food itself, which tracks with a venue built around the idea of slowing down rather than rushing through a meal.

Good to Know

Chonchon & Chocolat is open from 10AM to 11PM, Wednesday through Monday, and closed on Tuesdays. It's located at 183 Avenue Mohammed V in Guéliz, directly facing Carré Eden. A full meal (starter, main, and dessert) runs around 280 MAD per person, with lunch formulas starting lower for a quicker midday visit. Reservations are recommended, especially for the Sunday brunch, and the venue also takes custom group menus for private and professional events.
